Once upon a time, there was a god named Sol who was the Sun. He was the vengeful, protective father in much the way that Luna is the nurturing, caring mother. This sun-god was source of Power in Crinos (in the blowing-people-up sense), while Luna was the source of Healing (both of the land and of beings). Note that in keeping with the matriarchal bent of Crinos (and because I'm Wiccan, pbbbbt :P), Luna is still, and always will be, mother of all, including Sol, who is her consort.

This God has been gone since the end of the time of the one tribe.

The time of the One Tribe was when all the Verdimm lived together in (relative) peace and harmony in what are now the Ancient Cities. Whether they were actually One Tribe, in the sense of all having the same form, I neither know nor care.

The time of the one tribe ended because of the last attack of the Tandrai. One of the main reasons for this was the capture of Luna's consort. Since living in cities was almost certianly _not_ Luna's idea (it hardly fits with the whole living in harmony with the land thing, now does it?), we can assume that the consort taught the verdimm the whole city dwelling thing. Hence, with his absence, Luna went to sulk in grief, and the verdimm could no longer talk to either of their primary deities (at least, not as easily as they could before).

Once Luna recovered, she tried to fill the void left by the capture of her consort, hence what has been called Dea, but actually isn't. It was actually a paltry substitute: Luna's Blessings. This is not to say that Luna is not powerful, of course she is, but combat and the like are not her style, so even though she knew that her children needed that, the old Dea was the best she could do.

Now that the Tandrai are distracted by their renewed onslaught, the consort has escaped, and returned from the places between shadow, through the Dark Places of the Tandrai attacks.

In Crinos, time turns, things change, and a new day dawns.

A few weeks ago, Crinos time, the stars aligned in a position that has not been seen, according to the wisest ones, for thousands upon thousands of years. The last time it was seen was at the end of the time of the one tribe, and then, the worst portents were fortold, although no-one remembers exactly what those portents were.

Now, the portents showed only joyous tidings, and a great change to sweep away the enemies of the Verdimm.

A few days after this alignment, a great dawn occured, the brightest and most welcoming that any Verdimm can ever remember. It seemed that the sun itself had grown brighter... As indeed it had! A fiery face, stern yet warm, was seen over the skies of Crinos, and a rippling of great happiness and surcease was felt through the ethers of all Crinos. It can only be assumed that much of this gladness came from Luna herself.

Shortly thereafter, wise ones began to speak of dreams and visions showing them the same face, and naming him: Sol, consort of Luna, returned from his banishment to the lands of the Void and Darkness, where he was held since the time of the one tribe. They also speak of a great shift in the nature of magic in Crinos, and that some of them now possess powers undreamed of in living memory.

In apparent response to this gladdest of tidings, the blackness around the old cities has retreated, and none have seen any sign, even mental ones, of the Black Verdimm, the Serpen, or, more strangely, the Marswt in several weeks.
